Archive for the ‘Spaces’ Category

This topic is about to be twisted and made into sweet lemonade……

The topic Space, why what do you mean? Are we talking about the final frontier, the room used for trophies that’s totally empty, or like everyone else’s ur bedroom. Well the previouse topic was relationships. Combine relationships and space and you get Myspace. LOL. I know your thinking that i’m gonna go way off topic and lose more points, well i’m not. Myspace is the perfect topic for such a discussion.

Myspace.com is a majorly international space for meeting new people, dating, friendships and other methods and reasons for communication. It is also an International apartment building, full of personalised spaces within it’s domain. Think about it when we all started our myspace pages it had a white background and some plain black lettering, no pictures or videos, and no friends to share it with. Then we used our personal styles and our own thoughts to develop and publish pages that were very personal and intimate.

Myspace.com is one of the top english laguage based and the sixth top in any language. It is international. From Australia, to North America m to Germany, To China, To Iceland , and many other exotic and distant places around this wonderful globe we call Earth. We get our accounts and find codes and secret techniques to make letters and marquee’s flow accross or rain down the screen. We choose the right song of the week to display how we are feeling and what we are about. We add pictures and friends to display who we like, what we like and how we like it to be displayed. Everything in that space, one page, is yours and you can do whatever you may wish with it as long as you are decent and moral.

javascript:void(0)

I think myspace is ingenius. As a human being we all need to have our space. It’s a part of our basic instincts. When we are born we push things around, we adopt and adapt to where we are, the contents of the space we are in and we adjust it to how we want things to be. Well the makers of mypace have taken the elementary thought of personalization andcommunication and have made it available to the worldwide community of the tech generation ccausing an epidemic use of the site.

My myspace right now is being totally gutted and reconstructed. I took all the about me and profile information and scrapped it. I am becoming a new person and i am ready to let the world in. I am a person in a stage where I feel alone and i have a hard shell on display for all the world. I let that show in my page by adding a dark black on black on gray design for my background. I have updated my pictures and let the world see me now. I have change and everytime i do, so does my myspace page. I don’t care if it’s the music i’m into for the time or for the way my page is laid out. I may be feeling all ordinary one day and the next day i feel all together….

Spaces are an interior designers dream… my dream. I love to see any empty space and mentally deck it out with all the latest fads, trends, and craves. I have in my only one thing, a designers job is to interpret the space through the inspirations of the owner. I get paid every now and again to interior design on peoples myspace pages. I ask them a few questions and get a few samples of music, colors, and or graphic. When i get a sense of their personality i can become a great as the one and only Leonardo DaVinci, but only when i get there points and views. I interpret their space through their eyes as they may want it to look.
So i leave you with a thought what does your design say about you…..( be it fashion, your bedroom, or ur myspace page).

i’M THINKING OF WHAT TO WRITE…

ME

This blog is wayy past due. I know. I say rather late than never. I didn’t just blow it off, I had a major dental accident. Very traumitizing and painful. Think crunchy peanut butter. lol. ouch!

I think for this spaces themed blog I will talk about my preferences for space. I am currently in the market for an apartment and have been into the subject any ways. So here goes.

I am currently living at home with my mother and family. In total, there are 9 people living in a three bedroom house. I and my older brother are both seperately looking to move out. I have my own room in the back of the basement. It is a real room, not some curtain drawn back of the attic greg brady type set up. I have the necessities. A bed, Television, Radio, dresser, closet ( a portable from Family Dollar), and nice white walls. I guess the room is large, as it is rectangular. It’s measurements are like 25′ by 15′ or so. I like it, but after ten long years i think it is time to go out and get my own space.

I have been looking for good locations in the Greater Metro Detroit area and its surrounding suburbs. I recently found an area that is just to die for. Wixom, a little ole town I never heard of has everything I need.

I have found a couple apartment buildings that meet my specifications. I need a 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom apartment. Complete with a kitchenette and dining area, living room and a patio or balcony. I prefer to be off the ground floor and have good heating, electricity, and water bill control. Well they offer all that and a pool.

The Village apartment building is perfect. Rent is $330.  For $330.00 a month I can get this.

Air Conditioning
Balcony
Cable Ready
Some Paid Utilities
Clubhouse
Emergency Maintenance
Laundry Facility
Swimming Pool

( from the apartment guide site.)

I really like the area, it’s near a couple major freeways. It’s a nice community. Most importantly I can afford and enjoy the dwellings.

I am planning to move in by February. I hope i meet the requirements for the blogs. Because this is my space to space transfer. I cant wait…. Moving out of my moms house for the first, and hopefully last, time is going to be a major step up for me. I have been in my mother’s watchful eye and soon i’ll be out and about my life. In my new apartment, In Wixom. LOL.

I wonder who else in the class is in an apartment, do you think i’ll be homesick? Just a question.

I Love My House!

I have lived in my house ever since I was born. I think it is very spaceous, comfortable, and amazing! My house has an attic, a basement, and three floors. When I was younger, my sisters, and I spent most our time in the basement. But as we started growing up, we did not use it as much as we used to. The floor above my basement, is my family room, which also leads into another little room, that has a connecting bathroom. That used to be my half brother’s room, but when he moved out I took it over. That room was nice, because it was always cold, and had a connecting bathroom, but the only problem was that it was too small. Therefore, I would always have clothes every where, and it just never seemed to be nice and tidy. But I made it work. But the family room, is my favorite place. In the family room, is a big screen TV, and a huge coach, and also my computer is in there too. In my family room, is where I snuggle up and wathc moies all day long. Then above that, is where my living room, and kitchen is. My family room is very nice, that is why I only watch TV in there sometimes, because eeryone has to have one really nice room in there house, and that is ours. In our living room, contains a big screen TV, a coach, two chairs, two glass tables, and a massage chair. Then next to that is our kitchen, which its a kitchen, not anything special. Then the floor above that is where all the bedrooms are, and the main bathroom. On this floor, there are three bedrooms. I used to hae my room downstairs, but when my oldest sister moed out, I took over her room. So now I live up stairs with my other sister, and mom. My mom’s room is right next to mine, and my sister’s is across the hall. I love this new room, because it is definetly bigger than the other one. In my room, I also love to snuggle up in my comforter, and watch movies, do my homework, and hangout with my friends in there. My room consists of a bed a dresser, a TV, a closet, a hamper, and this tall shelf thing. The walls in my room are red, and I recently bought a new comforter that is black, and white, and then bought a red throw pillow to make my room look cute. Then I hae a million pictures everywhere! I made my room like that, so I could always be looking forward to comming in my room. Well that is pretty much my house. I think it is very spaceous, and couldn’t be happier with it!

My home sweet home :).

My house has three bedrooms. There is my room, it is where I spend most of my time studying and sleeping. I really like my comforter because its white ang fluffy, i have a pink area rug, and lots of dark blue throw pillows.I like is because its roomy and organized. I like to have it neat and clean. Then, ther is my moms room, which is next to my room, and the office down the hall. The office has the computer and i spend a lot of time there too. I usually chatt with friends online and go on blackboard a lot. My computer sure comes in handy when i want to write papers! I have a big living room with a big TV. My couches are like oversized and i love them! At my house I have a nice updated kitchen, with good food in the fridge. Just thinking about it, I am hungry, and i am going to go there when im finished writing. When family and friends come over we usually will hang out in the living room and watch tv, or eat at the dining table in the kitchen, which is connected tot he living room. My house also had a finished basment with another living area down there. During the summer i like to watch tv down there because its a cool place. I am trying to get my mom to paint the living room walls upstairs though, so she said she will think about it. I think the living room would look great with some color, don’t you agree? I never realized how much i actually liked my house untill i analized this space. I can also tell you about my dogs house, doesn’t that count too? 🙂 Its in my back yard! It is made out of wood and it is really neat, one of my mom’s friends is building it for my husky before the winter starts. Its going to have insulation, so that it will be a nice warm place for my dog to go when hes outside and wants to be warm. I think that maybe a little window is going to be added to it and I am going to paint it too. 🙂

My dorm is kick ass

It is truly amazing how certain rooms can really define a person for who they are and what they value in life.  My dorm room is a perfect example of this.  It is probably my favorite place to be and every little detail describes perfectly who I am.  Even my bedroom back at my house was not quite as perfect as my dorm is now.  It did not have all of the values of me represented.  And the best part about my dorm right now, it is MY dorm.  I made a decision over the summer to pay more money and have the room to myself and not have to worry about a roommate potentially transferring into my room.  I get to organize it however I want, I get to study when I want, sleep when I want, and party when I want.  It’s absolutely perfect and it is worth every penny and more of what I spent for it.

So how does my room define me?  When someone walks into my room, what will they be able to see about my personality?  What clues will help them understand who I am?  I like to believe the first thing people notice about my room is the neatness and organization of it.  I do like to think of myself as a very organized person who values the importance of keeping things in logical places as to be able to have quick access to them to save time.  My desk is probably the next thing that people notice about my room.  Over the summer when I came to Wayne State for orientation, I noticed that the desks they provided would not satisfy my study needs.  I love space and I love organization.  So I decided I was going to build my own desk!  This desk took me about a month and a half to build and I could not be more proud of my work.  It satisfies every single need I have and it really is the perfect place for me to study.

The next thing someone might notice is the serene and calm feeling the back section of the room provides.  I enjoy peace and quiet from time to time and my painting of the ocean that hangs on my wall shows that I enjoy an occasional moment where nothing matters in the world.  Also, it would also become apparent that I like to socialize.  The room is known pretty much as the hang out spot of the 4th floor and I love it for that.  People come in to visit me all the time and I did organize it so they would have that ability and feel welcome into my room.  And finally, the multiple pictures and memorabilia from high school and past parts of my life will show that I value where I came from and I enjoyed my life up until now.

Basically, it’s hilarious that a 19’ X 15’ room can tell so much about a person.  But now that I stopped to right this blog, I realized that it really is true that people can be described perfectly by the place they live.

“It’s what life is, it’s a series of rooms, and who we get stuck in those rooms with, adds up to what our lives are.” – Patient Eve, episode 358, House M.D.

When we first look at a room we’ve never been in, we’re flushed with a seemingly endless amount of sensory data our minds sift through. Colors, height, organizational patterns, all of these things tell us about the rooms caretaker, and about how they chose to operate. Many things could alter a rooms “Chi” or overall balance, and the art of interior decorating has pinned it down to a science. You could walk into a room and stuff be thrown every which way without rhyme or reason, or you could walk into what appears to be a recreation of a mansion bedroom circa the 1700s, but no matter what you walk into, you’re going to draw a conclusion about the people who live or work out of the room.  Your dwelling is a reflection upon you, and at that, sometimes as important or takes the place of a first impression.

When I first looked at my apartment, I thought, “Oh man, this place is huge, I could fit so much stuff in here!”, because of the 15 foot tall ceiling and solid white walls all the way around. Once my roomate and I had moved our stuff in, however, it quickly garnered a separate evaluation. Space management plays a key role in space, and space ultimately plays a key role in, at least my, stress level upon entering the room. I like big, open, yet subtly organized spaces, with plenty of room to move around if I see fit. I organized our general living area to accommodate a large open central space centralized by our coffee table, with all of our couches and seating as far against the wall as possible, eliminating all “dead, uninhabitable” space from the room. Once space management was out of the way, I was well on my way to tackling the next steps to making my apartment my home.

Color is generally a huge factor in how people asses a room, and while some colors may make a room look bigger/smaller, I chose to keep our stock white paint for the room (partially because of its optimum space-generating feel, and partially because our landlord threatened to charge us all the paint it would cost to repaint it back to white… :P) Scent is another big factor, but a couple of well placed ornamental candles, incense and time-released oils, the overall smell of the room was almost reminiscent of a coffee house, and I started to feel more at home. My apartment, being a loft style unit, has no set rooms, so everything was split up without set boundaries. To signify and mark my territory,  I hung up a few wall scrolls and essentially ‘drew the line’ with a ‘line’ of my stuff, as to say “Hey, you’re now in my room…respect.”.

Keeping the apartment up may be a chore, but I rest comfortably knowing that when someone does see it, the impression towards myself will at least be one of thought-out, care-taken and good-taste.  I take pride in my space, and like anyone who takes pride in their space, it will show, loud and clear. (I’m looking at you, 1970s-painted study area of state hall, which looks like my Grandmother’s basement.)
