Hey. This is going to be our class blog. In class, I’ll give you the log-in name and password. These blogs are just an easy way for you to write reading responses without having to go through the trouble of actually turning them in on paper. On the syllabus, I’ve listed the times, dates and topics on which your blog responses are due. You are required to write a minimum of 350 words. But you can post pictures or write more than that if you want, too.

A few things to remember:

1. Anyone on the internet can read what you write here. This is just one of the reasons it is important not to use offensive language or personally attack your classmates.

2. That being said, this is a space you can use to write your opinion without having to worry if it is “academic writing” or not. I would genuinely like to know your reaction to the things that we read and discuss.

3. You will be asked to make two comments per blog assignment on other students’ writing. Keep them constructive. They should be anywhere from 3-10 sentences long.

4. It is important that you sign your name at the end of your entry and on your comments so that I can give you credit for completing the assignment.

5. Depending on what you write, I may or may not comment on your post. I’ll be reading all of them regardless, commenting on them when I can.

6. These blogs are going to be used to generate class discussion on the readings and films and to allow you to write in a less restricted environment than the typical classroom.

1.  You need to write at least 350 words. There is no maximum length limit.

2. You have to do this before 5pm on the day it is due, before we meet in class. See the syllabus.

3. You need to post at least 2 comments on other people’s reading responses. You have to sign these with your name, too. If you only post and do not comment, you’ll get half credit. Comments can be posted anytime before class. Comments should pertain to their writing and be anywhere from 3-10 sentences long.

4. You need to write on the topic we are discussing in class at the moment. As long as you are writing on-topic, you can write whatever you want, however you want. I won’t be grading you on spelling, grammar, organization, or any of the structures of academic writing, so use the blog to explore ideas you have about these broad topics and what we have read.

5. If for any reason you are having trouble posting (wordpress is jammed up, you can’t figure out how to do it, your computer crashes and dies) you have to find a way to email me the writing before the deadline. You will be expected to leave your comments by the end of the next day. THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS, BARRING CATASTROPHE!
