I read the article Houselessness and Homelessness by Jim Burklo who is a pastor and director of an Urban Ministry of Palo Alto. He describes homelessness in a different kind of way then usual. I thought of homelessness as of people living on the street with no where to go but the streets. I have never heard of houselessness before but I would say it would be the same thing as homelessness. Houslessness is another word he uses to describe people without a house. He chooses his wording very carefully throughout the article. His interpretations of the two are quite interesting and he gives examples that help you relate to what he is saying.
He says that homelessness is those that move from place to place and are never in one area. They range from the richest people in the world to the middle class of the world. Now you think that that’s impossible but is it. The explanation is this people that have homes but are never there are truly homeless they move from hotel to hotel and all around the place but never truly stay in one spot. An example would be celebrities how many have a house in Hollywood and an apartment in New York. They don’t state whether they live in one place or the other because they have both places to stay and go whenever they wish.
Houselessness according to the pastor is considered those that do not have houses but stay in one place at a time. Think about people you see on the streets and at night usually they stay in the same spot every night no matter what. That is because that to them is there home and where they belong. It may not be a house but instead a park bench or under an over pass but to them its home. To a person living on the street they consider themselves to be a resident of that community because it is where they stay and there home. After reading this article I really changed my outlook on this homelessness and houselessness concept it’s very interesting and when you think about it very true.

I have never really thought about it that way, but I like how you mentioned actors and rich people who are truely homeless. I cant imagine not having one place I call home. I dont sleep well in hotels or in new places except when I am camping or something like that. So your article really got me thinking. Pretty crazy that some bums at least have a home under an overpass when the rich really have nowhere to call home.

I never thought about it that way before and it is intersting how you say rich people are really homeless. It really made me think.
Yea i agree with everyone on this, i never really thought that there was a difference between homelessness and houseless. what interested me more was how he said that celebrities are considered homeless because they are always travelling and don’t stay in one spot.
