I think some advertisements are just pointless, because they don’t have anything to do with the product being sold. For example, rapper, designer, mogul, P. Diddy has this no fragrance out Unforgivable and in his commercial he is in a staircase making out with this woman and it is very intimate. The entire commercial is him and this woman making out and it has nothing to do with the fragrance. Sometimes I think that producers of certain products feel that if they make their advertisements oversexed then the consumer will be more interested and more willing to by their product. Singer, songwriter, actress, Beyonce Knowles is sort of like a spokesperson for the Armani fragrance Diamonds. I believe this was a brilliant idea, because Beyonce has a huge fan base, I think she carries herself well, and people pay attention to her. In their commercial Beyonce sings Marilyn Monroe’s “Diamonds Are a Girls Best Friend,” she has on diamond stilettos, and there’s diamonds sparkling everywhere. Therefore, I think that is a great well thought out advertisement. It is also a very catchy as well as a classy commercial.Personally I think the best advertisements are the ones that are more humorous, because they are more memorable in a more positive way. I have two that are my personal favorites the Axe commercial and the Orbit commercial. The Axe commercial has real catchy slogan, “bow chica wow wow,” and that can really get stuck in your head. Also the Orbit commercial is just very funny to me. In one of their commercials they have two women arguing and they are using words and phrases like “son of a biscuit,” cootie queen, and lint licker just to name a few. Those words are suppose to be bad words and their slogan is something like,” If you have a dirty mouth clean with Orbit gum”. That commercial grabs your attention in my opinion. I also think producers put subliminal messages in their commercials to make people buy their product and I think in certain commercials or ads they use things to catch children’s attention. For example, the different cereal boxes use a lot of color and characters. Those are things that children like and will respond to and the producers know the child will ask for their product and there’s a good chance that someone will buy it for their child or a child they know. –Raven English
I like this post. You bring up some good points. Especially that some advertisements are pointless…I see a lot of those.

Alright, Raven. You make some good points here. I’ve seen all of those ads, and I think you may be right about the Diddy one. They are relying too heavily on his ETHOS to sell the product through sexuality and sometimes we don’t even realize what the product is by the end of the commercial. And I think we’ll talk about Axe in class if we can.
