Usually, men are supposed to be masculine, handsome, strong, bold, and etc. Women are meant to be delicate, polite, soft spoken, and etc. But now a days, these characteristics aren’t always true. In most Disney films, we watch when we are little kids, and grow up thinking that men are girl’s knights in shinning armour, and women are princesses. From those Disney movies is where we got our ideas of how men and women are supposed to be. Also from horror films like “Halloween”, “Friday the Thirteenth”, and many more. Most of the killers are men, and all the people that die first are the women, because they are portrayed as helpless, and pathetic. But as time goes on, people are started to break out of the gender roles, but very slowly. For example now in scarey movies for instance “Vacancy”. Kate Beckansale’s character fights back. At times, it got to some points where we could say ” Do this”, or ” do that”. But for the most part, that was just to make the movie a little more suspensefull. Although in the movie, “Halloween”, it was made in one way to look at it, that women are angelic, or to be virgins. As we noticed in the film, the only girl that did not die was Laurie. Laurie was the only girl that was not fooling around with any guys throughout the whole movie. Unlike Laurie’s friends, they were both messing around with boys, and ended up getting killed. But other than movies, women and men are portrayed in toys, and comics of how men and women are supposed to look. Take Barbie for example. She has long blonde hair, big boobs, a tiny waist, basically an hour glass shape figure, and she is tan. Then there is Ken. He is built, has big arm muscles, tan, and a twelve pack. So everyday we are told in some way how women and men should act, and look. But basically our society is starting to live out of the box. Women can play sports, and not thought to be a lesbian, and men can dance and not be thought as of being gay. Although everyone hasn’t changed their views, it is a slow process, and hopefully one day people will be more open.

Gender Roles

I agree with you. The roles of women have changed. Ashton W
I totally agree. Gender assignments are visible and available everywhere, in places you don’t think of. Barbie and Ken are perfect examples; also, think about the other toys we usually buy our young children. The boys are usually bought trucks and construction toys, like Legos and Matchbox. The girls, on the other hand, are usually given baby toys, where they are given little baby boys or girls that cry and require feeding…now, some even pee! From birth, we’re assigning gender roles to our children, and it continues throughout our entire life.
