I think that in most old movie the women were the ones that always were helpless. As a “women” my self i would never do a movie that makes me look like the helpless one. Like at the end of halloween, the Dr. was the one who helped that girl by shooting the “boogyman”. Also, the cop was male. It was as if the authority aka Dr. and police were only supose to be male. Like, why didn’t they have a female play a heroic role in the movie?
Another thing i would like to point out isthat why does the “boogyman” have to be male? Couldn’t a female act all crazy and kill people too? Why does the role have to be played out by a man. Should we just fear men? In a way i guess that is how movies were made. But even now, movies have the men be the hero’s or the villins. Rarely is a female seen playin those roles, rarely. As in not most of the time. I guess women are not scarey enough or is it that men fear that if they give a women a role in a movie as the boogyman, hero, or villian, that women would feel superior over men. Who knows how most men think anyways.
I would like to see more movies where women are not the only ones in the corner of a closet crying because of a boogyman. It just gets boring after a while, like why can’t females play heroic roles in movies too. Now more movie scripts are giving women the chance to play a actual part in the movie, and not just run away screaming for their lives. Not many women want to see movies where the female actors are scared of crazy men trying to kill other women. It is just not cool. If women don’t stand up for their rights or try to get leading roles in movies then we will see a lot of movies like halloween where the female actors are playing roles where they fear something.

Nice post, Mariam.
Hey MariaMM!!! well one movie that i can think of that has a woman as like a “bad person” would be Saw…i think it was #2 and 3 when she took over….now thats a crazy biottttchhh!! lol…..she ended up dying in the end =]…o well ha. also the Resident Evil series stars that girl, i dunno her name, but im gonna go see the new one. yep, gonna go to bed now. night
Dang it, lol, this is the second time i forgot…Ronnie Navarro Sent the ABOVE MESSAGE =]
Kill Bill portrays a woman as the hero and in the series of movies Pirates of the Caribbean Elizabeth Swan steps out of the role of the “typical female” and follows her own interests. I would agree that women are rarely portrayed as the hero or villain, but if more movies continue to go against this grain, things could be changing.

I agree with you Mariam, women should really have more roles as the main characters in movies. We are so used to the fact that guys play the roles of doctors and policemen, but they should have BOTH men & women playing those roles. It’s also nice to see that they are starting to come out with new movies that have females as the “heroines” like: elektra, wonderwoman, catwoman, etc.
